CGA Project Receives Honor

April 7, 2016

National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), located at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY (on Long Island), was recently named “Best of the Best Higher Education/Research Project” by the construction-industry trade magazine ENR.  The design team was headed by HDR Architecture, and CGA served as the vibration and acoustics consultant.  Major conventional construction was completed in 2011, and the facility was dedicated in early 2015. CGA provided vibration and noise consulting for design, construction, and evaluation of the conventional facilities. It cost $912 million to design and build, and is an advanced, highly optimized third generation medium energy storage ring. It will enable structural studies of the smallest crystals in structural biology, provide a wide range of nanometer resolution probes for nanoscience, and enable new methods for imaging the structure of disordered materials and biological systems.
