ENR Southeast Announces 2023 Best Project Winners

For the 2023 Regional Best Projects, Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc. (HOK) was awarded Best Project, Higher Education/Research, for the Emory University Health Sciences Research Building II (HSRB II) in Atlanta GA, for which Colin Gordon Associates performed vibration and acoustic consulting.

The facility, which abuts with train tracks that are used by CSX freight train lines (a vibration source that required careful consideration during desig), provides additional research space for the School of Medicine (SOM) adjacent to the existing HSRB-I facility. Eight stories and 350,000 sf houses vibration sensitive equipment in wet and dry laboratories, an imaging facility (Center for Systems Imaging), vivarium (Division of Animal Resources), and office and collaboration spaces. LEED Gold is expected for HSRB-II in which the focused research includes imaging sciences, biomedical engineering, cardiovascular medicine, child health including cancer, adult cancer, inflammation, immunity and immunotherapeutics, emerging infections and other interdisciplinary programs.
